We were photographing an extended family session the other night, and our client said to me, “You two are SO good at making people feel comfortable!” And it really made me realize how truly important that is to creating a good photography experience.
We always tell people that our first priority at every session is to get everyone relaxed and loosened up so that we can have a lot of fun together and get real personalities to shine. And we really mean that! The only way to truly capture genuine smiles is to create truly fun moments.
We do this by prompting you into interactions or “moving poses,” like: bump into each other while you hold hands and walk toward me.
Or pick the kids up and give them tickles.
And prompts can also be slower paced to capture more intimate emotion, like put your foreheads together and close your eyes while syncing your breathing.
Or put your head on mommy’s chest and try to hear her heartbeat.
During our sessions, we really just want to capture the love you have for each other, and we’ll vibe off of your energy to capture that the best way we can.
Don’t get me wrong though – we also love capturing posed photos, and although we don’t typically toot our own horn, we’re pretty damn good at it! We shoot from flattering angles, position our clients at staggered heights for visual interest, and pay attention to all the little details like hair, jewelry, and those finicky extremities that can feel so foreign when posing for a photo.
But even when posing, we still make the experience fun for you so we can capture genuine smiles! Sometimes we’ll ask you funny questions, make silly comments, or even have you say something out loud to the camera that’ll make you laugh.
We truly believe that we are providing more than just photos; we’re providing a fun and memorable experience for your whole family.
